Hermès Scarves and Shawls: Carré, Twilly and Cashmere Guide

Hermès cashmere shawl

Since 1937, the Hermès silk scarf has been one of the house's most beloved creations. Each design is a small work of art, printed with remarkable detail.

The main formats

  • Carré 90: the iconic 90 × 90 cm silk twill square.
  • Carré 70 and Gavroche: smaller squares, easy to tie around the neck.
  • Twilly: a narrow silk ribbon, often tied on bag handles.
  • Shawls (140 and GM): large cashmere and silk blends, warm and luxurious, perfect as a wrap.

How to wear them

  • Knotted around the neck for a classic Parisian look.
  • As a headband, belt or bracelet.
  • Tied on a Birkin or Kelly handle (Twillys protect the handles too).
  • Draped over the shoulders: the cashmere shawl is ideal for travel and evenings.

Care

Silk and cashmere are delicate: professional dry cleaning is recommended, and scarves should be stored flat or rolled, away from light.
